What Your RHR Says About Your Health and Longevity

Every time I check my resting heart rate, I feel like I’m sneaking a peek into the future of my vitality and longevity. Because here’s the truth: your resting heart rate (RHR) is one of the simplest, most powerful predictors of your long-term health. And most of us barely give it a second thought.

The normal RHR range is generally between 60 - 100 beats per minute. Having a slower rate usually means your heart is strong, efficient, and not working overtime to keep you alive. In fact, research shows that a low RHR is linked to a longer and healthier life.

  • 💛 Under 70 BPM = strong, efficient heart
  • ⚠️ Over 90 BPM = increased risk of early death

Lance Armstrong reportedly clocked in around 32 BPM. Usain Bolt? Same. But you don’t need to be a world-class athlete to reap the benefits—a consistent fitness routine, smart nutrition, and restorative recovery can gradually bring your RHR down.

Your heart’s not just keeping time—it’s keeping score. Fewer beats, better stats, longer life.

But here’s what I know: research says the more consistently I move, the less those everyday aches and twinges should knock me down. Could it be that I’d feel even more pain if I weren’t exercising regularly? Turns out, yes. A study of over 10,000 adults found that people who exercised more frequently...

Join The Wonderfulness Community The Secret Metabolic Engine Powering Your Health True story: I'm 1/4 inch taller now than five years ago. How? I don't know for certain, but I'm hoping it means that I've added to my bone mass and I'm preventing my vertebrae from compressing. The opposite usually happens during aging. Keep this in mind: bones do more than hold you up—they fuel your metabolism. Active bone cells help regulate...

Dreamed up by marketers in the ’60s—not scientists in lab coats. Since then, researchers have dug into the data and found a range of numbers. Yes, around 12,000 may boost cognitive health (one of my favorite areas to protect), but for overall well-being, the sweet spot is lower—and far more doable. 7,000 steps a day is...
