I Don’t Love to Exercise. That’s Why I Love This Research

Exercise has never been my hobby. I don’t wake up excited to do a workout, and I’m not training for anything besides living a good life. What I am always looking for is the least amount of effort that gives me the biggest payoff.

That’s why this new research lit me up: you don’t need long, sweaty sessions to protect your blood sugar or your bones. I’ve been saying this for years (twenty, in fact—I just celebrated my anniversary as a health coach). Squats and quick bursts of high-intensity movement sprinkled into your day can sometimes be more effective than a traditional workout.

Studies aside, I’ve always believed the real magic happens when you combine the two–regular workouts and specific movement throughout the day. Trust me—I’ve seen it with clients, and I’m betting the research will catch up soon.

Health gains don’t always come from doing more—they come from moving smarter.

👉 Try This

  • Every hour, stand up and do 10 bodyweight squats.
(Yes, the study tested every 45 minutes, but an hourly timer is way easier to track. You’re only “on the clock” during your chosen 8-hour window, like 9–5.)

  • Once a day, swap squats for a one-minute burst: sprint up stairs, bang out ~70 jumping jacks, or run in place at a pace that leaves you breathless by the end.

That’s it. Tiny, doable actions that strengthen your muscles, steady your blood sugar, and even build better bones.

You don’t need to make exercise your hobby—you just need to make it a habit. This can help. 💛 Want more science-backed shortcuts to age-proof your body?
